School Library and Resource Centre
This is a facility open to the whole school and is in the care of our two librarians, Mrs Evans and Mrs Speer.
There are over 8,000 books contained in the Library, ideal for homework, research, reading for pleasure, or for inspiration. There are also computers, which are connected to the school network and can be used to type up schoolwork or find things out using the internet.

Each year group has one lunchtime per week when they can come in and use the computers.
The Libary Catalogue
This is a list of all books and resources contained in the school libary and hundreds of websites which have been assessed by teachers, is available to all staff and students. You simply type ’Oliver’ (without the quotation marks) into the address bar of Internet Explorer. The homepage displayed has current information about new resources and events that concern the libary.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The Library follows policy decisions based on the following aims and objectives:
- The library should continue to be a resource for whole-school learning, ensuring that the retrieval and dissemination of information and access to a whole range of knowledge is freely available to all.
- Help and advice with enquiries from staff and pupils is the first priority. Library staff must be able to devote time to this important area of the library’s work.
- The library should be central to the academic curriculum – in the environment it provides for study and in the resources that are available.
- The objectives of the National Curriculum are to be supported where possible, by the provision of a broad balanced and up to date range of library books and resource materials, and information technology.
- To provide material that is carefully selected to foster a balanced viewpoint and avoid sexist and ethnic sterotyping.
- To educate and encourage pupils and staff in the use of libraries and to teach study skills. To promote ’user education’.
- To provide reference facilities and information retrieval.
- To support all school activities by offering advertising space and box office facilities.
- To provide material to meet the needs of readers and to maintain the balance between the needs of different subjects, interests and ages.
- To support studies and help prepare students for further/higher education.
- To liaise with the School’s Library Service in order to extend the range of resources and expertise available to the school.
